Is the Advanced Certificate Suitable for me?

Complete the questionnaire

We’ve created a short questionnaire to help you reflect on whether you’re ready to begin the Advanced Certificate (Level 3 equivalent) training.

It isn’t a pass or fail test, and it won’t make the decision for you. What it will do, is help you think through your current experience, readiness and motivation in a structured way.

Take a few minutes to complete it and see what emerges. If you’d like to register your interest for level 2 instead, let us know.

If you’d prefer to talk it through, we’re always happy to have a conversation.

Level 3 Is this course right for me

This Advanced Certificate is designed for people who are new to counselling training as well as those with previous experience from helping roles. Level 2 study or experience is welcomed but not essential. This quiz is a reflective guide, not a test.

Motivation and expectations

When someone talks about a difficulty, I tend to focus on understanding their experience rather than offering solutions.

I have a realistic sense that counselling training involves learning skills as well as personal reflection.

I am interested in exploring how my own experiences influence how I relate to others.

I am comfortable with learning that unfolds gradually rather than quickly producing answers.

I prefer situations where I already feel confident rather than learning through uncertainty.

Relational awareness

In conversations, I usually notice my own emotional responses as well as the other person’s.

I can stay present in conversations even when the topic feels uncomfortable.

When I feel out of my depth, I am generally able to seek guidance rather than withdrawing.

I am able to hear feedback about myself without needing to agree with it immediately.

I am comfortable acknowledging areas where I am still learning.

Practical readiness

I currently have the capacity to commit time and attention to a structured course.

I am able to take part in group learning in a way that respects both myself and others.

If my circumstances changed, I would be likely to communicate this rather than disengage.

I am open to learning through discussion, practice and reflection rather than written material alone.

I generally follow through on commitments I have made.

Ethics and professional awareness

When someone shares something personal with me, I am generally able to hold that information without passing it on to others.

I recognise that professional guidelines sometimes require decisions that differ from personal preference.

I understand that safeguarding responsibilities can override confidentiality in certain circumstances.

I am open to working with people whose values or experiences differ from my own.

I see professional development as ongoing rather than something completed at qualification.
